Cloud Benefits
When it comes to the cloud, there are many benefits it can bring your business. One of my personal favorites simplifying collaboration. Tools like Microsoft Teams, Google Sheets and Trello are some of the better services I’ve personally used.
The cloud also allows you to be mobile and remain relevant, which is also key to attracting young, talented employees. Young people don’t want to be tethered to an office — they want to work from anywhere. And cloud services enable them.
The cloud may seem like an easy switch, but you still need to know what you’re doing. There are things you need to be aware of. So, I’m here tell you what your IT provider isn’t telling you about the cloud.
Security
For one, the cloud is not as secure as they say. It’s easy to assume the cloud is more secure since that is what most IT companies say, but you still need to make sure it is. If you can’t detect and respond to threats, you’re never secure.
Second, human error is often the culprit in cloud data breaches. A Wall-Street Journal article “estimates up to 95% of cloud breaches occur due to human errors such as configuration mistakes, and the research firm expects this trend to continue.”
There’s no room for overlooking security when it comes to the cloud; even one small error can have dire consequences.
Third, a weak and exposed password that one of your employees is currently using is one step away from compromising your data. That’s really all it takes. Education is key to building your human firewall.
Which cloud?
When it comes to evaluating cloud service providers, there are many clouds to choose from. A lot of these cloud companies like Google and Microsoft are big, and they’re constantly changing. You can’t call them up if you have questions.
My point is: you’re still going to need help managing your cloud. If you don’t have an expert in your company, you’re going to get lost. Whenever you migrate to a new platform and you don’t fully understand what you’re doing, it can be detrimental to your business.
That’s why I put together this cloud migration summary video together.
